FRESH FROM THE FARM

Attention farmers and folks who love shopping at farm markets and farmstands: 'Tis the season to be eating very, very well - with foods that go straight from the fields of our local farms to our dining tables.

So, farmers, please clicks COMMENTS below and post information about your farm market or stand. Tell us the name of your farm, where it's located, when you're open and what's fresh at the moment. If you're picking squash or beans or sweet corn, the rest of us would like to know. Feel free to post info any time on this blog. I'll regularly create FARM topics this season or you can e-mail me (clurfeld@app.com) or call me (732. 643. 4273) to prompt me to create a new FARM topic for you.

And for those of you who love to plow the farmstand trail, please let the rest of us know what you're finding where - and what you're cooking with beautiful Jersey produce.

thanks!
Andy

Hi Andrea-You intervied me over the phone when you did the article on Dawn Cooper a couple years ago. I work at Perkins in Colts Neck on Sundays and wrote this about my experiences there. Since writing his i have a few more great stories. let me know what you thin

Ive been helping out a friend who owns a local family restaurant hostessing. Its a new experience for me and one I would like to share with you. First of all let me tell you that this is a family restaurant that serves breakfast all day, not a 5 star gourmet place. The first day I worked there I was amazed that seemingly intellegent people didnt know they would have to wait a few minutes for a table on a very busy Sunday morning. Come on people. OH and do you think the ruder you are to me the faster I am gong to get you a table??? Do you know me at all?????? You are so far down on my list already and each time you give me a dirty look you are going lower. Also do you think if you glare hard enough at the diners already seated they will eat faster??? And if you really want to squeeze your fat asses in a booth that you can barely slide into, be my guest.

I thought I had seen everything the day the rather large woman in a MINK coat wanted to hand me a banana peel to throw away after she ate her banana while waiting for a table. YOU WERE JOKING I ASSUME BECAUSE I WAS NOT JOKING WHEN I REFUSED TO TAKE IT.

Sorry to say- I had not seen everything until this past weekend. Family of 4 comes in, mom, dad 2 little girls. I seat them in a booth. The next time i walked by them one of the little darlings was smashing her chocolate muffin into the table and molding it into different shapes. Now I am not kidding the mother acutally said "see honey I told you it was fun here" Then I guess the other little spawn wanted to get in on the "fun" so she ( I swear this is true) started to spread her muffin up and down her arms and over her face. All the while the parents think this is fun. Hysterical. I had to call one of the waiters over to show him because surely I was imagining this. When they were done having so much fun, they went into the ladies room and washed up. Where did they spend the rest of the day? Playing in the local dump?

One more thing people-the kids that work at these place are just trying to make a little pocket money. Probably have to pay their own car insurance and even pay for college. Give them a break. We hate you to start with, so just sit down where I put you. (dont even get me started with that. Again-its not a restaurant with an ocean view or nice seat by the fire place. just sit you ass down and eat) and be nice.

We had a similar experience at Sirena at Pier Village. The wine that we ordered was not available but the had one which was also much more expensive. The food was awful and the service was worse. When we went to use the lavatory there was no soap in the dispensers and when I went to the hostess to tell here she told me that it wasn't her job. Needless to say we won't be returning there.
